Mona Lisa Smile: Discussion #1 & Discussion #4
Discussion #1
The role of the women in the 1950's played in this movie from the students perspective they didn't see it as a bad thing. They were just going off society not really what they wanted. I mean they wanted to be stay at home wives but they also wanted to extend their education through college and they also wanted to have children and start families. Ms. Watson wanted to show them that they could still have a family and still extend their education through college. She was making it seem as if becoming a house wife was a bad thing and was something that they shouldn't do.
Discussion #4
When it said she was subversive it means that she was going against the policies or the rules that were there at the college or on college grounds. She wanted to teach what she believed and how she felt about things. She ended up leaving because she didn't like those rules but she grew a relationship with her students. Her job was to actually not care about the students or the choices they made but she did because of the fact that that's who she was. Ms. Watson knew things that were going on with those girls and she didn't like it. Like the fact that they were getting married and trying to become housewives instead of extending their education.

I agree that Ms. Watson wanted them to do what they wanted and for them to be a good house wife but to be something different and to not be like everyone else.
ReplyDeleteI agree. She was different and it set her apart from other teachers of her time.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, that the teacher was just wanted the best for them
